Ukraine’s Energy Policy in Transition

We are delighted to share that our colleague Nadyia Kostyuchenko has co-authored a new book chapter with Springer VS:

Kostyuchenko, N., Smolennikov, D. (2025). Die Energiepolitik der Ukraine: vom braunen Energielobbyismus zum grünen Nachkriegskonjunkturprogramm. In: Dobbins, M. (ed.), Das politische System der Ukraine. Springer VS, Wiesbaden.

The chapter traces Ukraine’s energy policy from independence in 1991 to today, showing how powerful lobby groups delayed the shift from fossil fuels. Russia’s invasion in 2022, however, has accelerated the push for sustainable reconstruction.

The authors conclude that Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction presents a unique opportunity to rebuild its energy sector along ecologically sustainable lines.

We warmly congratulate Nadyia on this timely and important contribution.
