Current research projects (selection):
Acceptance of smart grid services
The research cooperation with Repower Ltd. addresses the question of
customer acceptance of smart grid services. On the one hand, the
internal change process in an organization necessary to build new
customer oriented innovative smart grid services will be analyzed and
supported with our research. On the other hand, ways to increase the
customer acceptance of different innovative smart grid services and
products will be investigated.
ACTIVE INTERFACES – Understanding consumer and investor preferences to overcome barriers for a large use of BIPV in the Swiss urban context
The project focus on non-technical barriers to building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) adoption in order to understand the why diffusion of BIPV has remained at low levels so far and in order to develop valid solutions.
Ancillary revenues in Aviation: Do green products increase customer value?
The research project uses a conjoint analysis to understand the potential of ‚green products’ (e.g. carbon offsets, organic-on board food) in aviation
HeatReserves: Demand Response for Ancillary Services
HeatReserves is a joint four-year research project funded by nano-tera.ch in which partners from the ETH Zürich, Swissgrid, EMPA and the University of St.Gallen investigate solutions for electrical energy storage.
Leverage mental accounting mechanisms to promote energy conservation
Using a combination of online and laboratory experiments, this research project investigates to what extent mental accounting mechanisms are relevant for energy-related decisions and how these mechanisms can be leveraged to promote energy conservation.
Former research projects (selection):
Affective Influences on Risk-Return Perceptions of Renewable Energy Investors:
An Experimental Analysis of Differences between Financial and Strategic Investors

Impacts of wind power plants on residents: Influencing factors and recommendations
Research project for the analysis of positive and critical impacts perceived by residents to wind power plants in Switzerland
IMPROSUME - The Impact of Prosumers in a Smart Grid based Energy Market
IMPROSUME was a joint research project with partners from NCE Halden (Norway), Aarhus School of Business (Denmark) and others which aimed at clarifying the role and impact of „prosumers“ in smart grid based energy markets.
Marketing Gag or Value Creating Strategy: What is the Customer Value of Sustainability in Retail?
Path dependence in strategic investment decisions of energy companies
The research project "path dependence in strategic investment decisions of energy companies” investigated different renewable energy investment strategies of utility companies. It aimed at researching different internal and external variables that explain the underlying reasons for investment choices of utility companies.
